My art continually explores the broad theme of complexity, but more specifically the compexity of human emotions. In my paintings emotions are explored through the depiction of semi-abstract organic forms. The work reflects both the complexity of my own thoughts and feelings at the point in time they were created and the use of organic shapes mirrors the complexity of form but also the connection between other organic life forms, from the microscopic to the broader natural world.

My newest series of works are drawings cut out and placed within the confines of clear boxes. These broadly come under the theme: 'My Fairytale Life'. With these the theme of complexity continues, but in a more specific sense, as a visual diary of my own tangled experiences, emotions, hopes and fears at the time of creating each piece. Every scene is but one small part of a broader narrative, however without the benefit of a concrete beginning or end to the story as clarification. Each piece was triggered by events or emotions at the time of construction, be it a flash of anger, an observation, deeply felt emotions or simply hopes and dreams of what is to come. These brief flashes of experience have been captured, pinned down and put on display, where (unlike our invisible thoughts and dreams) they can be examined and considered at length. As in fairy stories, there are places to be explored, fears to overcome and personal demons to battle. An illustratory style has been used; thus adult issues are reduced down to their bare bones, represented in a child-like manner reinforcing the illusion that complexity can in some way be simplified.
